There's a Bear in our Car!

Recently we took a three day trip to the Smoky Mountains with Renee's siblings. We drove down after church and met them there Sunday evening.

The trip took a sobering turn as our Sister in law Missy, and Renee's brother Kenny were called back home at the sudden unexpected passing of her father.

They had driven down six in their vehicle so they drove our car to quickly get home, and we would drive their's bringing all home on Wednesday.

Tuesday, I was downstairs and Renee shouted, "Greg get up here, the door of the car is open!" A bit startled I went outside and sure enough the door was open, but what we discovered next is hard to believe.  We had always been told to keep doors locked and no food in them.  I would have bet, that I had locked the doors. it seems that in the course of locking it with the remote , that I must have unlocked it when I checked to make sure and pulled the handle.  The discovery?  Paw prints of dirt on the back seat and console.  A bear had been in the car.  Not our car, Kenny and Missy's brand new Kia Telluride.

This is the type of stuff you see on a social media clip.  It involves other people, not us. We went over the inside with a fine tooth comb, thinking there was only one small hole on the right side of the console.  A small indent on the door handle, but that was it or so we thought. Later when we got the car  home, Kenny and Missy discovered a rip in the front of the console that we had not seen.  We had eaten bacon and eggs for breakfast, and our friends who speculate, said it must have been the smell that lured him our way.

The above picture was sent to me (See the bacon) and I thought it was actually their car and a view from the camera at the cabin,  AI did it again.

My sermon takeaways from the whole ordeal?

  1. You leave the door open, the Devil is coming in.
  2. The Devil will always leave evidence and debris along the way of where he has been.
  3. The Devil will show up in broad daylight.
  4. When the Devil doesn't find anything he can use, he won't stay long

James 4:7 (NKJV)
7  Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

This whole thing helped us laugh in the midst of great loss.  Seeing Renee with her siblings that we don't see very often, three couples from Dayton, and one from Atlanta was a great joy.

Hey keep your spiritual doors locked.  The Devil is walking around seeing if easy access is available.

See you Sunday.  Brother Greg
